Camajuaní
The parish temple is located in Camajuaní. Additionally, the parishes include: José María Perez (El Fe), San Benigno and La Loma, La Quinta, Carmita, La Luz and Vega Alta.
At the parish we run catechesis for children and preparation of adults for the sacraments, a youth group, LSO and a group of ministers of Holy Communion. Recently, the Caritas group was launched, helping over 50 of the poorest people.
Camajuaní did not have a church for the first 20 years of its existence. The first mass was celebrated on January 6, 1880 in a house on Lieutenant Street. In 1885, a church was built on a corner plot reserved for this purpose since the city’s founding.
The building has a basilica plan with three naves and neoclassical features typical of the time, and a bell tower was added in 1908. It was thoroughly rebuilt in 1940, when the wooden roof was replaced with a reinforced concrete slab, the priest’s house and other rooms were raised to the second floor, some openings were bricked up and the windows were “modernized” to those typical of the Miami type.
The temple is dedicated to Saint Joseph the Bridegroom, and the patronal feast falls on March 19. Saint Joseph is also revered as the patron saint of the city of Camajuaní.
